Tech Tip
TECH TIP NO.: TT68.003
PRODUCT: Series 68 Enterprise III
REVISION: All
FREQUENCY: All
DATE: 7/30/93
ORIGINATOR: Vivek Saxena
RELEASED BY: Documentation Control
SUBJECT: Using the Series 65 Fast Lan Card in the Enterprise
III
In the Series 68 Enterprise III EISA motherboard, the Series 65 Fast Lan card
cannot be used in EISA Bus Master Slot 6. This card can be configured in any
other EISA Bus Master Slot (Slot 1 through Slot 5).
The reason the LAN card cannot be used in Slot 6 is that the EISA chipset used
in this board generates AEN6 for accesses to I/O port 80h. This was done by
the chipset manufacturer to enable some popular diagnostics cards to work in
EISA systems. (The American Megatrends diagnostic card has no such limitation).
In our testing so far, we have found that only the Series 65 Fast Lan card has
a problem in Slot 6. We have tested the following EISA cards in slot 6 of the
Series 68 Enterprise III motherboard:
1. American Megatrends Series 44 EISA SCSI Caching Host Adapter
2. American Megatrends Series 48 EISA Non-Caching SCSI Host Adapter
3. Novell 3200 EISA Lan Controller
4. Adaptec 1742 EISA SCSI Controller
5. DPT PM2012/95 EISA SCSI Host Adapter
6. Bustek BT742A EISA SCSI Non-Caching Host Adapter
7. Ultrastor 124-F EISA SCSI Host Adapter
It is suggested that unless limited by the number of EISA Bus Master Cards vs.
Bus Master Slots available, this slot should be left open. If slot 6 must be
used, one of the cards from the list above can be used in this slot.
